Born in the South Yorkshire town of Mexborough, hook laden, energetic and contrastingly soulful songwriter Sam Scherdel has been penning music since the age of 11. After learning the drums at an early age he then proceeded to teach himself the guitar and piano.
His sound is a well informed blend of resonances that started with his mother's record collection (including REM and Bruce Springsteen,) and led him to have an enormous admiration of other classic songwriters such as The Beatles and David Bowie.
Now based in Sheffield, he has become a staple amongst the music scene around the North of England. Critical acclaim from BBC Introducing has followed, as well as hundreds of performances ranging from the local tap room through to Ibiza Rocks.
In 2014 he performed extensively supporting the likes of Darlia and Jersey Budd on their UK Tour dates, co-written and collaborated with top ten UK rapper ShaoDow on two songs gaining full support from BBC Radio One and BBC 1Xtra, as well as performing at Tramlines Festival and on the Main Stage of the Doncaster Live Festival.
All of this alongside his dexterous vocal capability and perceptive lyrics makes him one of the UK's most sought after singer/songwriters waiting to turn heads.
Released on the 2nd December 2014 was his new EP 'Cruel Beautiful World.' A collection of Sam's selected new material spanning over the last two years of constant song writing. This is also paired with his highly emotive video for the opening track 'I Stand Still.'
'Cruel Beautiful World' is available digitally through iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and other digital outlets, and physical copies are available to order from his website.
