To coincide with Andy Murray’s final tennis season this year, Arcofield’s new single is all about the multiple Grand Slam winner’s impending exit from tennis.
Looking back on the nerve-shredding highlights of his career, the song lyrics recall the moments Andy gave us all collective heart failure:
Close-fought games was a characteristic
It was kinda sadistic
…and also the heroics of his later years when he battled through injury:
Like some ancient hero in a crisis
He battled through osteoarthritis
It’s a guitar-led song with a pulsing indie rock vibe, and a surprising turn into angelic harmonies, implying a worshipful approach to one of the living legends of British sport.
As Arcofield points out:
“It’s only right that Andy’s career should be immortalised in song. This is like a hymn to the great man.”
Arcofield was once a teenage pianist. He lost a finger in an accident, quit the piano, picked up a guitar and discovered songwriting.
This latest track and his previous single (‘Me and Taylor Swift are Pursued by Ed Sheeran for Unpaid Rent…and He’s Got a Gun’) are from Arcofield’s upcoming debut album ‘Songs About Famous People’.
